Meet the band

Mike Baxter – Keyboards

Mike has been a feature of the Glasgow music scene since the late ’70s and ’80s. He played with Shoot The Moon, who enjoyed TV and radio airplay that led to partying with the likes of Hazel O’Connor, John Entwistle and Noddy Holder, who once drank Mike under the table (two hours before Nod was due to record in the studio!)

Mike was a mainstay of Glas Clas and Identity Crisis amongst many others before co-founding Long Earth.

Most recently, Mike appeared on an album by the international best-selling author Peter May, who also writes and records music. Mike was the inspiration behind May’s character Enzo McLeod, the protagonist in seven of his crime books.

Renaldo McKim plays electric guitar.

Renaldo McKim – Guitar

Renaldo joined Long Earth during the recording of the first Long Earth album The Source, having been involved in various bands since the 1980s, including Happy the Man (UK), Young Things West and Suicide Underground.

David McLachlan – Bass

David’s first serious band was the new-wave Just the Job from 1978, and had the distinction of being described by DJ Annie Nightingale as her “pet” band, recording a London session for Radio 1 before they had even played their first gig!  Unfortunately, despite appearances on TV and radio, the charts remained untroubled and the dream of wealth and fame never materialised – until now!

Over the years, David has played  many styles – jazz funk, pop, folk, rock, and even ceilidh! For the longest time he has been a member of The Young Bucks, playing all over Scotland, England, and even the south of France, Prague and Bethlehem! In 2021, the chance to join Long Earth with their prog credentials (and to become a part of the creative process) was, he says, an opportunity not to be missed!

Maaike Siegerist singing with Long Earth.

Maaike Siegerist – Vocals

Maaike stepped in as Long Earth’s temporary vocalist for their Autumn 2024 shows, to an enthusiastic response from audiences. After Martin announced his departure, we invited her to become our permanent singer.

Maaike studied songwriting at Bath Spa University and has two solo projects – acoustic singer-songwriter songs with jazz influences as Maaike Siegerist, and spooky and electronic tracks as Dora Lachaise.

She started out singing in the gothic metal band Evershadow and later in the prog metal band Alerion (renamed Alarion).

Long Earth Alumni

Martin Haggerty performed all vocals on Once Around The Sun and An Ordinary Life, and also wrote the majority of the lyrics and vocal melodies. Alex Smith played drums and percussion on An Ordinary Life.

Gordon Mackie (bass), Ken Weir (drums) and Hew Montgomery (production/backing vox) all brought their talents to both The Source and Once Around the Sun, contributing greatly to the Long Earth story.

Neil Mackie performed lead vocals on The Source and contributed to the writing process,  while Alan Reed provided narration on the track Invisible from the same album.
